Florida FR-44 Insurance and DUI Coverage

When you are charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the sunshine state, you will be required to file an FR44 certificate of insurance prior to reinstating your driver's license. The state of Florida requires anybody convicted of a DUI, resident or non-resident, to file an FR-44 form with the Florida Secretary of State prior to restoring your driving privileges.

When you reinstate your drivers license after a DUI, you must provide proof of certificate of financial responsibility with the highest state liability limits of 100/300/50. The FR-44 insurance limits are significantly higher than the state mandated legal liability limits of 10/20/10. The purpose of such high liability limits are to protect the public financially from the person convicted of a DUI, if they were to be involved in an accident.

You will be required to carry the FR-44 for three consecutive years from the reinstatement of the DUI revocation. If the policy lapses or cancels for any reason, your drivers license is suspended immediately.
