The purpose of the DL-123 Form is to provide proof to the NC Department of Motor Vehicles that you have the state mandated legal liability limits. In North Carolina those limits are 30/60/25; $30,000 bodily injury liability per accident per person, $60,000 bodily injury liability per accident total, and $25,000 property damage per accident. Limited Driving Privilege
Typically, after a DWI your license will be suspended for 30 days. However, if this is your first offense, and your BAC was below .15 at the time of arrest, you might be eligible for limited driving privileges after ten days. Limited driving privileges are only available to people:
- Who do not have a previous DWI conviction
- Who have a valid drivers license
- Who have completed a substance assessment by an approved DWI agency
After your DWI has been processed, at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), you will have a record on file. This record helps the police department and the attorney communicate to make sure all requirements have been met for limited driving.
